Overcharged in Korea 2026: Price Rules and How to Report

Paying more than the board says is one of the oldest complaints visitors bring home from Korea, and in 2026 the government changed the penalty for restaurants. Since September 1, an eatery, café or bakery that has no visible price list, or that takes more money than its own list shows, is closed for five days the first time inspectors confirm it. A repeat costs ten days and a third case twenty. Before the change, a first case ended with an order to fix the problem and nothing more. The step comes from a broader package announced on February 25 at a national tourism meeting. That plan also promised seasonal price caps declared in advance by hotels and guesthouses, faster license suspensions for taxi drivers who overcharge, and removal from gift-voucher schemes for businesses that are penalised. On the pages I checked on October 31, only the restaurant rule had actually been written into law; the others were still listed as plans....

Busan's fireworks night falls on Saturday, November 7, 2026, the 21st time the city has staged it. The show is fired over Gwangan Bridge from 19:00 and lasts about an hour with a short break, and you can watch it without paying from three shore areas the organizer names: Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaek Island. Money only buys a place in the fenced block on the sand.

Two seat classes are sold. An R seat comes with a table and costs 100,000 won; an S seat is a chair for 70,000 won. People with a Busan address on their ID or residence card pay ten percent less. Visitors from abroad book through the English NOL World site, which checks a passport and caps each buyer at four tickets. Korean channels, including Busan Bank, close on different days in early November, and the hotel bundle offer ended on October 25.

Timing decides more than price. Anyone who booked from October 12 onward gets the ticket at the on-site booth, not by post, and that booth is expected to be packed. The gates to the seating block open at 15:00, and a seat that is still empty at 18:00 is lost with no refund, a full hour before the first shell goes up. Cancelling costs nothing in the first week after booking, then the fee rises in steps to thirty percent in the last two days, and there is no cancelling on the day itself.

Getting there is the other trap. This year the organizer has posted its road plan early: lanes on Gwangan Bridge start closing on November 2, both decks shut completely on the evening of the show, and the streets near the beach shut in three waves, the first at 10:00 that morning, with eleven bus routes taken off the main road from 18:00. The organizer's advice is plain: leave the car at home, come by subway, and be in the Gwangalli area by early afternoon so the ticket queue and the walk to the block do not eat into the time before the seat cut-off.

The complete guide on Hello Korea Playground sets all of this out in tables: seat prices and sales windows, the cancellation fee for each week, the full closure schedule road by road, and the subway stations for each viewing area. It also compares two tour-platform listings with the official terms, so you can see what a resold ticket gives up. Every line is dated and linked to the organizer's own pages.
